Paris Punishing Anorexia
France, as in Paris, France, the fashion capital of the world, is concerned about anorexia. So concerned, that according to the Guardian, a popular British newspaper, they’re imposing laws to combat the disease.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. Perhaps a little upset to learn that French women actually have to work at being that thin and fabulous. I thought it was more of a natural thing, you know? Oh well, what can you do?
Anyway, back to the story. April 15th, France’s lower house of parliament announced the bill that would make it illegal for anyone to publicly incite extreme thinness. Also according to the Guardian, “Fashion industry experts said that the law, which would apply to magazines, advertisers and websites, would be the strongest of its kind anywhere.”
The ironic part…anorexia is a mental illness, correct? They’re making this mental illness punishable by law? Jeez…

Wow, I didn’t know that the French were so utterly insensitive!
Like you said, anorexia is a mental illness and now that it has been also proven to be genetic, that like saying that it’s appropriate to publicly shame those who have hypoactive thyroids, because “it may cause obesity”.
I understand and completely agree with the notion of making real naturalized view of beauty more prominent in the fashion industry, beauty industry and in marketing campaigns. This honorable effort to help women understand that our society has an unreal expectation of beauty is definitely overdue.
